The Headland Hotel is seeking to recruit 3/4 people to complete their student placement year in September 2024. To fully participate and contribute towards the successful day to day operations of the department you are working within, always adhering to the five-star standards. To absorb as much knowledge and as many skills as you can, before moving onto your next rotation, whilst being a passionate advocate for continued professional development on behalf of your university.
Success measure: The Headland will never fail to meet guests’ expectation of its 5-star standards.
This is a 12-month placement, with a rotation every four months, working towards holding a supervisory role in each department (depending on skill levels exhibited).
Key tasks of responsibility (N.B. These are not intended to be exhaustive)
FIRST ROTATION
Food & beverage service rotation (nine months):
You will participate in two of the following services: RenMor (breakfast, afternoon tea, dinner) plus either The Terrace or The Deck (bar service, room service, casual dining service, poolside service)
Welcoming guests to the restaurant.
Set up of restaurant prior to service.
Food and beverage general knowledge.
Friendly service that exceeds guests’ expectations.
Up selling additional food and beverages.
Allergens and special requests.
SECOND ROTATION
Front of House rotation (three months):
To ensure all our guests receive a true ‘Headland’ welcome and are treated individually with the utmost care and attention.
Assisting the Concierge team with arranging restaurant and spa bookings, along with other requests that guests might have.
Assisting the Reception team with check ins, check outs, and general guest care.
Assisting the Porter team with arrival guest tours and rooming, plus luggage handling procedures.
Participating in guest relations, learning about guest praise and complaint handling.
Learning about the setup of rooms for events, including understanding function sheets.
Building a knowledge base in regard to how the whole hotel works together as a single operation, made up of multiple smaller operations.
To learn about the absolute attention to detail required when preparing guest bedrooms/cottages, alongside the front of house areas in the hotel and spa. Gain a basic understanding in areas of maintenance that are essential in a hotel, to keep the whole operation running smoothly.
Cleaning and preparing hotel bedrooms & cottages to five-star standards.
Guest amenities stock control
Housekeeping PMS reporting
COSHH
Evening turn-down service
Rota setting in a busy seven day per week, 14 hours per day, department.
Basic maintenance tasks e.g. stopping a tap from dripping, resetting a fuse
In all rotations:
Encourage and deliver genuine care and attention to our internal and external guests.
Complete all training as required.
Ensure you comply with dress and grooming standards.
Participate in team/departmental meetings as required.
Actively care about the well-being of fellow colleagues and guests.
Keep up to date with the regulatory environment of The Headland.
Ensure all sensitive personal data is kept secure and processed in line with the Company’s General Data Protection Regulations.
Ensure that you are aware of your responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act and as a result, all health & safety procedures are fully met, including participation in twice yearly refresher training.
Any other duties that are considered a reasonable business request.
At The Headland all job holders are expected to deliver a level of flexibility in their roles. It is to be expected that this job description and the responsibilities outlined within it, will be subject to periodic change in the light of changing operations and environmental requirements. Such changes will be discussed with the job holder and the job description amended accordingly. You will be expected to carry out any reasonable requests.
Additional duties:
You will be expected to participate in three external visits to other hospitality establishments in Cornwall, under the guidance of a Director. These will be arranged for you, along with the other students on placement.
Salary and Contract
12-month student placement (£27,600 per annum + share of service charge paid monthly. 45 hours per week, five days out of seven including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
