At The Fife Arms Hotel Braemar, we view internships and work placements as an opportunity for students to develop their skills in the industry by experiencing hands-on the operations of a working hotel and putting into practice the theory that is taught in the classroom. Students bring motivation, a willingness to learn and excellent leadership skills to the process.
The experience is also a benefit to the hotel as the student brings different perspectives and innovation into the workplace.
The Fife Arms Hotel Braemar offers internships for students focussed on training the basic skills required for hands-on positions in hotels and restaurants, such as food preparation, serving, reception and housekeeping duties.
STRUCTURE:
The duration of the internship will be agreed between the student, the educational institute, and the hotel.
Typically, internships are 6 or 12 months in duration.
The student will be appointed a Mentor who will support and follow the student’s progression through their placement. The Mentor is an operational Head of Department and typically of the department in which the student is completing his/her placement.
The departments in which the student can be placed for their internship include:
Housekeeping
The Clunie Dining Room & Drawing Room
Front Office (Reception & Porter)
Kitchen (on request / optional)
Depending on the length of the internship and the number of departments to be covered, we would recommend at least 3 months per department. This to allow for the skills to be learnt and the opportunity to develop competence in the area.

THE ROTATION:
Housekeeping
Working together with a member of the Housekeeping team, you will be responsible for consistently providing a 1st class level of housekeeping service to our guests, ensuring allocated rooms are cleaned to the highest standards which includes bedroom, bathroom and associated areas.
Shifts include daytime and turndown service.
The Clunie Dining Room & Drawing Room
Working within The Clunie Dining Room and Drawing Room, you’ll be greeting our guests with a smile, presenting menus and making suggestions based on guest preferences – creating an exceptional experience which leaves a magical impression for our guests.
Shifts include breakfast, (Sunday) lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, as well as ad hoc events.
Front Office (Reception and Porter)
As a Front Office Host (Receptionist), you’ll be greeting our guests on arrival with a smile, checking them into their room, whilst making suggestions based on guest preferences – creating an exceptional experience which leaves a magical impression for our guests.
As a Front Office Porter, you’ll be greeting our guests at the front door and on arrival with a smile, assisting with parking and luggage, as well as making suggestions based on guest preferences – creating an exceptional experience which leaves a magical impression for our guests. You take pride in keeping the front of the hotel and the lobby neat and orderly, as well the fires well stocked and lit.
Shifts include day-time and night-time.
Kitchen
Working alongside the kitchen brigade, you will support a section of the Kitchen ensuring the preparation and delivery of high-quality food. You will have the chance to experience the preparation kitchen, the Pub section, the wood-fired cooking section, as well as pastry.
Shifts include Kitchen Porter duties too.
